Pedestrians or Pests?

This morning due to some delay, I had to come to office by bike instead of bus (my usual means of transport).I prefer bus over bike because I can escape the sun and get some exercise. However, I don't mind coming by bike once in a while. Moreover, I can also put my bike to use by occasionally bringing it to office.Otherwise, it is in the cold storage.

Coming back to this morning. I was riding my bike in barely 25-30 km speed considering the mad traffic in the vekatanarayana road. When I was speeding towards a signal, which had already turned orange, an old couple was super coolly crossing the road as if they were walking the ramp. I had to put my bike to a screeching halt only to see the signal turn red. The traffic police personnel deputed in that signal started to yell at the old couple by saying "Can't they wait for few seconds? If old people behave and act in a hurry like this, what can we say about the younger lots?".Had the old couple waited for a second, I would have reached my office five to ten minutes early.

Imagine this to have happened to someone going on an emergency.Every second counts for the one who is speeding to fetch some medicines or attending an interview.Isn't? I have experienced such incidents of pedestrians crossing the road even after the signal turning green very often. I heard that the traffic department has introduced a sophisticated system to track and fine the motorists, car drivers etc if they don't obey the signal rules. Can't they do something about these pedestrians those who never mind the signal?

I don't want to comment about the old couple... unsure of what opinion is right or wrong..

But you're absolutely right about pedestrians not bothering about the signals while crossing the road.

It happens in many places.. Among those I have noticed are the Alwarpet circle (near the Eldams Road turning) and near the Tidel Park signal, in Velachery...

And on OMR, people just climb up on the median and cross to the other side.. even though the ped crossing isn't there.. bikes come speeding down the road and they just don't care...

People are beginning to act like animals that cross the street... yesterday a goat that attempted to cross the road almost got hit by me.. . dumb thing...

lol..good one...our dear ol' Tidel park also houses monkey-like specimens who prefer jumping awkardly over bushes, even when there is an over bridge that screams 'Damn, use me' in their faces.

very true!! it is a common sight outside Tidel park in the mornings....in fact,in the entire rajiv ghandi road stretch, where, bikes and cars speed, these people cross without giving any forethought.....I seriously wonder why these people have no civic sense....

Even today morning I said "Dei Mundam" (low voice :D) to a guy who climbed on the median on OMR and tried to cross like a total idiot.. there were a few other ppl who were crossing too.. Stupids! they just walk across whenever they see an empty stretch of road... they walk between speeding vehicles! If I go at 50-60 I have to be very careful...
I don't want to thittufy people.. but what to do?

These people never think that they are putting themselves and others in danger.......using the flyover will hardly take any time........why don't they understand?

Happens all the time.Yesterday I saw this scene where a man was blindly running to cross over in a busy junction...right next to him a stray pup was walking coolly but making sure there are no vehicles 10-15feet from it...speak abt the 6th sense...hmph
