Ignorance is bliss!

On my parents' 25th wedding anniversary, I visited Sri Matha trust (an arm of cancer Institute of India in Adyar that provides free food and shelter for poor patients from outstation) with my father to provide something small that I can afford to the ailing patients.During our conversation with Mr.Shankaram, its coordinator, we got a lot of gyan on the trust and its activities. Some of the words of Mr.Shankaram are worth sharing. He said that many residents of the trust are from interior or rural parts of Andhra Pradesh. They do not have much awareness about the disease. They were referred to sri matha trust only by the local NGOs during the medical camps and like. They undergo medication without even knowing the cruelty of the disease.According to them cancer is just like a cold or fever that doesn't have medical facilities in their place. "They enjoy Telugu movies in particular, NTR movies and other TV programs" says Shankaram.This attitude of these patients is their best medicine. They are not plagued by the fear of death unlike the educated lot, who immerse themselves into the information from various sources and consequently turn negative. This is exactly the attitude of a bumper bee. A bumper bee has a small body but heavy wings. Aeronautically,a bumper bee cannot fly but it flies. Guess how? Its simple. You and me know that the physical make of a bumper bee could actually prevent it from flying. But it doesn't! Thats how it flies! These patients also have the same attitude.They are like bumper bees and are ignorant about the disease. I am sure they will fly like a bumper bee one day.
