Watch your Wardrobe

You can give a face lift to your personality by building the right wardrobe .You are judged by what you wear and how you wear it.Your attire speaks volumes about you. No matter what you are, a college student or a working professional or a home maker, you can boost your self-esteem by doing a basic wardrobe make over. Here are the steps that you need to follow:
  • Don't be a fashion victim. The outfit what Kareena Kapoor flaunts or an over-coat what you saw on a cover girl/boy may not be right for you. Invest on outfits that suit your personality and values. Don't go by the fashion or trend while choosing clothes. Make sure you are comfortable and carry the right image in an outfit.
  • Organize and maintain. Wash or dry clean them and arrange them according to their type (formals/casuals) or material(cotton/synthetic/silk) or however you are comfortable. You can even simply hang them in hangers and arrange the hangers. In this way, you can save the space and also can easily locate and take an outfit without disturbing the arrangement .Be sure to press them before arranging them in your shelf. If you are planning to fold and arrange your clothes one on the other, you can keep dry leaf bags between your clothes instead of using the naphthalene balls.
  • Don't stock up. Clear your wardrobe from time to time.If you haven't worn a particular outfit for the past six months(except for the heavily worked outfits that are meant for specific occasions), go ahead and donate it for the poor and needy. The key here is to make you clear the junk pieces that you will no longer wear.It is needless to say that you also need to clear the torn and faded clothes no matter how much they mean to you. Similarly, when you go for shopping, don't grab clothes on the spur of a moment. Analyze your wardrobe and carry a list of items that you need and the budget .
  • Build a decent number. In your pursuit to make your wardrobe less clumsy, don't hesitate to stock a decent number of clothes.Don't repeat the same outfit at least for three weeks. Similarly, stock up different colors and types of outfits.Of course, this depends upon your lifestyle and personality.
  • Grab the accessories.Apart from investing in good quality outfits, pay attention to your accessories as well. There is no point in wearing a well pressed and expensive safari suit with an age old torn slippers. This is a big fashion mistake. Make space in your wardrobe for accessories such as belts, shoes, slippers, bags, jewelery and even hand kerchiefs.
Now all said and done, your wardrobe cannot be changed in a single day. It will take time to give a new lease of life to your wardrobe. Each month allot a small budget for building your wardrobe and stick to that budget. You will see your wardrobe changing completely over a period of time.

Do weekend getaways burn a hole in your purse? Read This!

I can't imagine passing even one Saturday at home devouring whatever crap the TV channels dish out. When the weekend approaches, its time for me and my friends to plan for that week's outing. Little we know then that we are goanna spend all our hard earned money in some movie that bore us to death or in a restaurant exchanging a bland treat. Only when it turns Monday that we would realize that we have really blown all the money and that much awaited “Saturday” has actually made a big dent in our bank balance. We almost became addicted to weekend getaways that we can't help ourselves indulging in impulsive spending. Of late, I have realized how foolish am I to spend all the money on the spur of a moment. Can’t I really enjoy my weekends without blowing the budget? The sudden wisdom spurred the thought of planning for economical weekends. Here is a list of things that Weekend enthusiasts like me can follow to keep themselves occupied during weekends:

  • Become a member of a nearby video library and rent few DVDs exclusively for weekend. Purchase economical yet yummy eateries such as popcorn, cotton candies, puffed rice etc Invite your friends to join you and enjoy a different movie watching experience with your friends. If you share the expense, this can prove to be the cheapest and finest way of passing the weekend.
  • Visit a park that is center to all your friends and have a bash. This is economical and healthy too.
  • Break your “Not Entering kitchen” policy and try your hands in various dishes. Involve your friends also in mixing, chopping, grinding and blending.
  • Visit a coffee pub and order for only one glass of coffee (considering the budget) for all of you and have unlimited hours of gossip session.
  • Visit a temple by using the public transport. (Remember, this can kill most of your time and also can bring lots of laurels from the elders’ side.)
  • Lastly, choose a peaceful room, switch the AC on and get yourself into the blanket and get tuned to the dream world.

A guide to build your vocabulary

Do you have a penchant to build your vocabulary? All that you need to build it is a desire and the rest is assured. But in your penchant to improve your vocabulary, don't simply memorize words. There are even people those who set out to memorize a few words everyday from a dictionary. All such practices will in no way improve your vocabulary. Here are the sure fire ways to enhance your vocabulary.

Always learn a new word within its context. For instance, you will remember the word " kimono" (a Japanese traditional wear)better, if you read about the origin of the word(from Japan) and for which occasions it is worn and so on. In this way, you will also know in which context is it appropriate to use that word.
Nurture a habit of reading. It is very sacrosanct. Though some amount of television viewing, internet surfing etc will help you in building your vocabulary , reading is the sure shortcut to it.
Use it. if you simply learn and fail to use a newly learned word , there are more chances for you to forget it.If you use it when you speak, write etc , you will automatically push it to your long-term memory.
Interact .Develop a habit to interact with people those who have a strong vocabulary .You will not only enhance your vocabulary knowledge, but sooner or later, you will pick up their style , pronunciation , accompanied body language etc
Record. As we already discussed , it is important to put the words that you learn in your long term memory. So maintain a database .Jot down the words that you learn alphabetically or however you are comfortable with. But remember to write down the context. It is a good idea to form your own sentences by using those words with the help of a dictionary.

Is Car Driving driving you crazy? Read this!

Car driving is no fun! It requires your undisputed attention and spontaneity. On the other hand, if you master the nuances of it and sensitive to the traffic and driving rules, it is all fun.First and foremost, learn about the functions of various parts of the vehicle. Ask your driving instructor to explain you about various parts and its importance. There are three important parts in a car to the driver. Bear them in mind as ABC. They are accelerator, break and clutch. Accelerator improves the speed of the car. Clutch gives the movement while break prevents the movement. Clutch and Break are the most important parts. Steering is also another important part. It decides the direction of your car during its movement. The next important thing in a car is gear. It improves the speed of the car in co-ordination with the clutch. There are four levels of forward gear and one level of reverse gear.

Here is a quick run down of the steps involved in the car driving:
1.Keep your left leg in the clutch and right leg in the accelerator and if the situation calls for, keep it in the break
2.Start the car by turning the key on
3.Release the clutch gradually from your leg for improving the movement of the car.
4.As you release the clutch for improving the speed, change the gear from first to fourth accordingly.
5.After driving, bring the gear to the neutral mode and turn the key off
6.When you park the car, place the car in (any) gear mode and get out of it

Tips:

  • When you start the car, keep the gear only in the first level and as you release the clutch from your leg, you can change it to the second, third and fourth progressively
  • Never release the clutch to its fullest
  • Don’t park the car in the neutral mode as it can be moved easily

On a positive note ………

Many experts believe that positive thinking yields positive results. Several religions, studies and researches vouch for this belief. The entire Bhagavat Gita itself is an outcome of Lord Krishna’s efforts to impart positive attitude to Arjuna. Not only Hinduism, all the religions in this world impart positive attitude. Many personality instructors, scholars and psychiatrists conduct workshops on developing a positive attitude. People spend lakhs and crores of money for participating in these workshops.

Many organizations hire personality instructors to build a positive attitude to their employees. There are also various personality development books and CDs for self help. All experts want to convey through these programs is a simple idea: as you think, so you become. So it is important to think positive about yourself, your life, your environment and so on. But unfortunately many people do not develop a positive attitude. There are many people those who have every reason to be happy but still they will have something to worry about. On the other hand, there are people those who have many troubles in life but still stay positive.

One who thinks positive about himself and his life is a positive thinker. A positive thinker knows the limitations but focuses on the strengths only. A positive thinker is called an optimist. An optimist sees only the gain even in a painful situation. He is positive not only about himself but also about others. So he is a welcome addition in every group, organization and institution. Moreover, positive thinking gives energy and enthusiasm. It makes it easy to travel even in a difficult path. So are you ready to acquire a positive attitude?

Is diary writing part of your New Year resolutions?

Diary writing has often been the chart topper of my New Year resolutions. By hook or by crook, I would write diary everyday. All of a sudden, one fine day, boredom set in and it marked the end of my diary writing sessions. Many of you could have had similar experiences. But you will not miss writing diary even once if you know its benefits. All that you need for writing diary is a beautiful diary and few minutes of your time everyday. But the benefits that it has in store for you are countless. So what is diary writing? Diary writing refers to an act of registering a day’s activities and events at the end of that day. There are various benefits in writing a diary. Firstly, it is a tool for self-expression. One can express oneself in his/her diary. This act serves as an outlet for all the grievances and pains in life. As a result, there is a sense of relief and peace. Secondly, it is a record. One can record the events in his or her life in a diary. He/she can have it as a future reference. One can later refer it for his/her stand over similar decisions and experiences in the past.

Moreover, it is a practice for writing. A person who writes diary everyday has better chances to develop his/her language and writing skills. It also involves the use of rotary memory technique. The writer recollects all the activities that he/she was involved from the morning till night. This improves the memory of the writer and also he or she comes to know about the value of time. A person can make an account of how the time gets wasted. And also, it is a creative act. The writer has to express herself/himself in the best possible way .This is because the diary has the space constraints. So he or she should find creative ways to fill their words in the limited space.

It also provides a sense of direction. It helps a person to keep a close watch on his efforts towards a particular end. In this way, an individual can avoid the pitfalls and see to it that his/her dreams see the day’s light. Lastly, it provides a good read. Often the audience for the diary is the writer himself. It is a tool where the creator himself is the audience. So it provides an interesting read for the writer himself. So what's more? get set to write diary everyday!
